Job Summary

The Infirmary Laboratory Technician is a critical health and safety professional responsible for conducting routine and specialized diagnostic, environmental, and occupational health tests to support comprehensive workplace safety and health management at Kiira Motors Corporation. This pivotal role ensures the safe and precise collection, handling, analysis, and reporting of biological and environmental samples, with an unwavering focus on accuracy, confidentiality, and strict compliance with all safety standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Functional Responsibilities: Precision Testing & Laboratory Operations

  • Collect biological samples (e.g., blood, urine, saliva) from employees for medical screening, pre-employment assessments, or exposure monitoring with utmost care and adherence to aseptic techniques.
  • Conduct routine diagnostic tests for infections, toxic exposure, chronic health monitoring, and general wellness panels.
  • Maintain, operate, and calibrate laboratory instruments in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Ensure proper disposal of biological/chemical waste per safety protocols.

Occupational Health Surveillance Support

  • Provide laboratory support for health screening programs, especially for high-risk departments.
  • Alert medical staff immediately of abnormal findings or environmental hazards.

Records Management & Compliance

  • Maintain confidential records of all tests and results.
  • Ensure compliance with national health standards, ISO protocols, and KMC policies.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education: Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology or Laboratory Science.
  • License: Valid AHPC Uganda practicing license (mandatory).
  • Experience: 2+ years in clinical/occupational health labs; industrial hygiene monitoring is a plus.
  • Certifications: IPC, OHS, LQMS, or Basic Life Support preferred.
